The Nunavut Development Corporation is a Crown corporation of the Government of Nunavut.  Established with the creation of Nunavut on April 1st, 1999, the Nunavut Development Corporation is mandated to:

  • Create employment and income opportunities for residents of Nunavut, especially those in smaller communities
  • Stimulate the growth and development of local businesses
  • Promote economic diversity and long-term stability

To achieve these goals, the Nunavut Development Corporation has focused on value added exportable products from the wealth of talented artisans and unique natural resources in Nunavut.  With nine subsidiaries in seven communities, the Nunavut Development Corporation has businesses in the arts and crafts, clothing and meat and fish industries.  More than 525 Nunavut residents work directly for or are indirectly employed through Nunavut Development companies.

The Nunavut Development Corporation maintains a retail sales division in Toronto with a retail location in Terminal 3 of the Lester B. Pearson International Airport. In addition, there is a wholesale showroom in Mississauga. This division is the main outlet for the marketing and sale of the arts and crafts produced by Nunavut Development Corporation companies.
